Dr Daniel Wako Murende Technical and Vocational College reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a successful tree planting exercise held on 11th June 2026 within the college grounds.
The exercise was led by the Deputy Principal Administration, Ms Beatrice Mathu in collaboration with the Head of Department, Environment, Ms Lydia Okwaro. The event brought together Heads of Department, trainers, non-teaching staff, and trainees, all united by a common goal of promoting a greener and healthier environment.
The tree planting initiative forms part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to support the Government of Kenya’s environmental conservation agenda and the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) greening programme. TVET institutions across the country have been actively participating in tree planting and environmental conservation activities to contribute towards Kenya’s national tree-growing targets and climate action commitments.
Speaking during the exercise, the Deputy Principal, Ms Mathu emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and challenged every member of the college community to take responsibility for nurturing and protecting the trees planted. She noted that tree planting is not only about increasing forest cover but also about creating a sustainable future for present and future generations.
The Head of Department, Environment, Ms Lydia Okwaro, highlighted the critical role trees play in combating climate change, improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and enhancing the beauty of learning institutions. He encouraged trainees to embrace environmental conservation as an integral part of their personal and professional development.
The exercise provided an opportunity for trainees to actively participate in practical environmental conservation activities while learning the importance of sustainable resource management. It also strengthened teamwork and community participation among members of the college.
As a TVET institution committed to producing competent and responsible graduates, Dr Daniel Wako Murende TVC recognizes that technical skills must go hand in hand with environmental responsibility.
