Mission & Vision
Dr. Daniel Wako Murende Technical and Vocational College was one of the Phase 2 TVET project in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology funded by the Kenya Government and initial plans started in FY 2015/2016. It officially started its operations in January 2020. It is located in Busia county, Matayo’s sub county, Nang’oma location, Murende Sub-Location, Mudoma Village at 0.3296 N Latitude, 34.1810 degrees Longitude. It is expected to impart knowledge and skills that will help the government realize 100% transition rate. Opportunities for Research, innovation, transfer of relevant skills, knowledge and entrepreneurship’ is the backbone of this Strategic Plan. The mission of the college is to be a centre of excellence in research and innovation by promoting excellence in technical services which ensure food security and sustainable development: therefore, we provide suitable environment that supports research, innovation, core skills development and nurturing of entrepreneurial skills. The core values are integrity, Team work, Innovation and creativity, Professionalism, inclusivity, Collaboration, public engagement and Equity in customer service.
The college is well equipped with great machines and equipment to help train Agricultural Value Addition (Food science and processing) and General Agriculture. Others are: – Building/Civil Engineering, Business/ICT and Institutional Management. The level of the courses are; artisan, craft and Diploma. The institution will create employment for locals and other Kenyans at large and it is therefore expected to catalyze development, growth of the constituency in Busia County at large.
As a result of the Government policy that each constituency must have a technical college, there was Public participation which was held at St. Mary’s Mundika High School and was organized by the Area MP. Hon. Geoffrey Odanga. Thereafter the stakeholders approached Hon. Amos Wako concerning Land issue and there was a break through. NG/CDF through the Area MP made a contribution of Ksh. 10,000,000/= towards the constructions of the Institution whereby the National Government through the Ministry of Education, state Department for Vocational and Technical Training contributed Ksh. 43,000,000/=. Hon. Amos Wako donated land to the Institution of 7 ½ Acres of Title Deed BUKHAYO/MATAYO’S/5117.
It is a Public Institution with registration No. TVETA/PUBLIC/TVC/0028/2020. The college was mentored by Bumbe Technical Training Institution under the leadership of able Board of Governor’s chairperson Prof. John O. Shiundu. The one-story building was constructed by G.o.K, housing twin workshops for Food Science and processing Technology (Agricultural Value addition), 4 classrooms, 4 laboratories, Library space and Offices.
The main contractor (Mowens Agencies) handed over the building to respective organs of the Government, Directorate of Public works of Busia County and the Board of Governors of Mentor Institution on 24TH July 2019. Thereafter the mentor Institution deployed Mr. Wilberforce B. Musumba as a caretaker to the Institution who was Mentor representative on site during construction. Chinese personal installed equipment to the twin workshops and four laboratories which took six months with effect from July 2019 to January 2020.
The Ministry of Education under state Department for Vocational and Technical Training also provided furniture to the Institution through The Sigalagala National Polytechnic. In January 20th 2020 the Ministry of Education State Department for Vocational and Technical Training deployed Mr. Wilberforce B. Musumba as a Principal from Mentor Institution. The Area MP. Hon. Geoffrey Odanga played a key role by ensuring that the following activities at the Institution took effect immediately: –
- Fencing of the compound using portal frames and chain link.
- Fabrication and installation of the Institution gate.
- Drilling of Borehole, Installation of submersive pump and construction of water kiosks to neighbours and by extension to Murende Mixed Secondary School.
- Construction of 2 door openings of pit latrine.
- Water tower mounted with 4 tanks of capacity 10,000 litres each.
- Upgrading of the surface road to the Institution Whereby Culvert were placed at strategic places. The above-mentioned items were funded by NG/CDF Matayos Sub-County.
The Area MCA Hon. Linus Asiba rerouted the surface road to the Institution and also donated two diary animals using Matayos South Ward Fund.
Government input on commencement of programmes
In January 2021 the Institution received Five Trainers posted by the Public Service Commission. Also, the Institution received Deputy Principal posted by Public Service Commission.
The Institution has been receiving recurrent grants with effect from FY 2019/2020 to date. Same applies for recurrent capitation as per the enrolment.
The Institution has a portal with Kenya Universities and College Central Placement Service as well as Higher Education Loans Board TVET loans.
Mandate of the college
Dr. Daniel Wako Murende TVC is mandated to train and develop personnel with high quality skills and hence offer middle level manpower for national development. This is to be achieved by promoting access, equity, quality and relevant technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial knowledge and embracing research and innovation. This creates room for the college to offer courses leading to the award of Artisan up to diploma certificates in TVET programmes.
